Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

We work with adults experiencing grief or loss related to the death of a loved one, end of life concerns, and life transitions.

Do you work with children?

No, we do not provide counseling or therapy directly to children. Our approach is to provide counseling to parents or guardians so they can better support their family.  We can provide a referral to a therapist who works with children.

How long do appointments last?

Sessions are typically 50-60 minutes depending on the service provided, your needs and comfort level.

How often will we meet?

We usually start with meeting once a week. After a while, we may meet less often as you begin to feel better, recognizing that there may be times that you choose to meet more often for additional support, such as around the holidays or when anticipating difficult reminders or events that are coming up.

Can we meet virtually? Do you provide online counseling?

Yes, if you prefer online sessions, we can meet online using a secure online video system.

How much do you charge?

The fee for the initial 60 minute psychotherapy visit (in person or telehealth) is $175; subsequent sessions are typically 45-50 minutes at $140, or 30 minutes at $95. Cash, check, health savings account, and most credit cards are accepted. Payment is collected at the time of service.

Missed Appointment /Late Cancellation Fee Policy. Since we can accept only a limited number of clients, a late cancellation or missed appointment is a loss to us and to those waiting for appointments. Therefore, if you need to cancel an appointment, we ask that you contact us a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the appointment. Giving less than 24 hours notice constitutes a late cancellation. Arriving more than 15 minutes late without prior notification or not coming at all constitutes a missed appointment.

The charge for a late cancellation or missed appointment is $70. The $70 fee must be paid before scheduling the next appointment and/or to reserve future scheduled appointments. We are able to take credit card payments over the phone or pay via other methods.

Waivers or exceptions to this policy may be made for illness/sickness, personal/family emergencies, internet issues (telehealth clients), or inclement weather (in-person clients).  Please communicate with us if you have questions or concerns.

Do you accept Insurance?

Yes, we do accept insurance. We are in-network with several insurance companies, such as Wellmark/Blue Cross & Blue Shield, HealthPartners, Lyra, and Medicare.

If we are out-of-network with your insurance company, you may pay for services upfront and we can provide you with a receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please note that your insurance company/policy will determine any reimbursement to which you are entitled.  Contact your insurance company for more information on reimbursement with out-of-network providers and for information on your specific policy.

Please note that any insurance claim requires that you are given a mental health diagnosis.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, we are not medical doctors and do not prescribe medication. Many people find medication helpful, while others progress well without medication. If you would like to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, please contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist.
